Kenso Soai is a Japanese organic chemist recognised for his pioneering research in asymmetric autocatalysis and the origins of molecular chirality. Born in 1950 in Hiroshima, Japan, he studied chemistry at the University of Tokyo, earning his doctorate in 1979. He joined Tokyo University of Science in 1981 and became known for discovering the Soai reaction, a chemical process in which a molecule helps produce more of its own mirror-image form, amplifying a small initial imbalance. In 2026, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly with Henri B. Kagan for discoveries in asymmetric organic synthesis.
